Building our dream home : a chronicle of Grafton Keep

The stairs need replaced.

They need to be re-built as they aren't up to any kind of code.  None of the steps are the same hight, nor are they 10" wide.  I'm also "over-building" these as I want them to last as long as I will be around.  Therefore, I'm using LVL beams for stringers rather than 2"x 12" beams.  The LVL are 2"x 14" and made to span lengths around 24'.  The guys at the lumber yard asked if I plan to drive forklifts up the stairs.  While I don't intend to, they should be strong enough if I ever needed.  These are the three stringers for the lower set of stairs, with more pictures of the install to come as that work happens.

Underneath the new flooring area

The workshop is the first of many stages to finishing our dream home and property

The workshop has 3 floors.  The ground floor will become our metal shop / blacksmith studio.  The 2nd floor will become our woodworking and pottery studio.  The 3rd floor will be turned into a 1 bedroom apartment that we will move into for the duration of the build on the primary house.

This is the workshop building on the day we took ownership of the property.  Many changes need to happen to make this less craptastic!
