Building our dream home : a chronicle of Grafton Keep

Starting work on the Windows

Today we re-framed the first of several windows.  This is due to the window being held in with a single nail, and swinging out of place and falling to the ground when we were removing the sheathing for the door.  The plan was to do this anyway, this just made it move up in the timeline.

Step 1, remove exterior sheathing and interior drywall.  Then, cut a big hole in the wall where the new window will go.

Step 2, frame out the new window.  This was done with some of the boards that were previously there for the window, along with a mix of new 2x6's.

Step 3,

This will be to put new sheathing on the exterior.  We decided to do this as part of re-sheathing the entire building.

The workshop is the first of many stages to finishing our dream home and property

The workshop has 3 floors.  The ground floor will become our metal shop / blacksmith studio.  The 2nd floor will become our woodworking and pottery studio.  The 3rd floor will be turned into a 1 bedroom apartment that we will move into for the duration of the build on the primary house.

This is the workshop building on the day we took ownership of the property.  Many changes need to happen to make this less craptastic!
