With the reconstruction of the roof, we added new flooring space on the top floor. These beams needed to covered with boards to match the existing in the building. We had a local lumbermill make us some 14' long boards at 1" thick to match. While I was installing this, Amy was busy pulling up the old plywood on top of the other boards so we can check them all before we re-install the plywood with a ton of screws to prevent any squeaking when we put in a new floor.
This is what the space looked like before we had the roof re-built. This was looking up from the second floor. You can see how they had the odd roof angle heading towards the front of the building rather than what it is now. While this may have been to have a higher ceiling in what I assume was their living room, it didn't work out well for having a full living space on the third floor. This was taken from just about the same place as the next image with the new beams in place.

I didn't remember to take pictures of the floor without any of the boards installed, but this is what the beams looked like from above and below without too many of them in place.

I also needed to cut the old boards in some to enable the new boards to sit next to them on the older beam. This is a close up of what that connection now looks like.

The finished results are below. This is what the new subfloor beams look like in the space now. Before long, there will be plywood covering all of these to help level out any inconsistencies between boards (both old and new) as everything is rough cut timber.
