Building our dream home : a chronicle of Grafton Keep

Completion of exterior sheathing

Once we removed the old plywood, and finished re-framing the windows, we continued moving forward on the sheathing of the exterior.  Once all of the sheathing was up, we had to tape & roll all of the seams and any additional holes to keep everything waterproof.  We opted to not cut out all of the window holes, as it was easier to leave them covered for winter.  We will be opening those up in spring when we look to get new windows installed.  Currently, any openings that were left, are covered in plastic to help keep the elements outside of the building.

This is what the back and side of the building look like.  The upper windows on the back are not cut out, but will be this spring.

Back and side of workshop

This is the front of the building as it sits for winter (minus a couple of plastic sheets on the lower windows).  This spring will bring new windows, and likely a covering for the front entrance being built.

Building our property will consist of several phases.

The first is to finish out the building that already exists into what will become our workshop and a 1 bedroom apartment.  We will live in this while building out the final home.
